What if McDonalds and Marlboro combined designs elements? If McDonald's and Marlboro combined their brands, it would be a bold and controversial fusion of two iconic names, one from the fast-food world and the other from tobacco. Here's a fun and imaginative take on what that might look like.
Challenge
When designing one brand comes with its own challenges, combining two brands too flow as one is even more challenge. McDonalds’s is a well established family-friendly image that is often associated with kids, happiness, and community. Marlboro on the other hand is associated with smoking, rebellion and an adult only lifestyle. The sharp contrast of these two brand identities requires a unique and careful balance of the fun that is McDonalds and the risky adult subculture that is Marlboro.
New Package, Same Addicting Taste
New packaging, same addicting taste is a phrase that I came up with that showcases the addicting taste of both eating fast food and smoking cigarettes. That phrase is well summed up into the new package design that I made for the fry case.
Logo
For the logo of the new McMarlboro french fry packaging I took inspiration from both the McDonald’s logo and the Marlboro logo by combining the two and replacing the horses on the sides with a standing Ronald McDonald.
Typeface/Color Palette
Helvetica Black makes this mashup feel decisive, aggressive, and anti-cute. Using Helvetica Black gives this mashup a no-nonsense, corporate badass vibe. It strips away the whimsy of McDonald's and the cowboy drama of Marlboro, and replaces them with cold, confident, brutally modern branding. It’s giving industrial strength cool.
